Google has announced that it is splitting its search index into two desktop and mobile variants and that the mobile index will have priority. So what does this mean for your website?
The short answer is this. If your website is not mobile friendly then you will suffer. If that's the situation, you need to get it sorted asap - call us on 0116 279 3822 for assistance.
The longer answer. In some respects this development has been a long time coming. As more and more people use tablets and smartphones to search the internet Google has been prompting website owners to ensure that their websites meet the needs of this changing demographic. Hence Google has been nudging us all to make our websites mobile friendly (or responsive to use industry jargon).
So this latest news is just the logical conclusion of Google's efforts to date. What is perhaps more interesting, is that Google will update the desktop index less frequently, so that it will be out of date compared to its mobile index. This is an even less subtle nudge by the search behmoth to get your act together.
